Sports Reports 2024/25
Thursday 26th June - KS2 Sports Day by Freya
During ks2 sports day, on the 22nd of June, there were some incredible performances of speed, strength and endurance, starting with the 600-metre race. Conditions were perfect and there were some amazing tests of perseverance with emeralds finishing in first. For year 6 we had our refreshment break first and next hurdles with everyone doing exceptionally well. After that, there was vertical jumps, everyone tried very hard scoring highs and lows. However, some people were feeling very tired as we had had our water break first so went back to get a quick drink. Chest push was next with everyone trying there best scoring and the scorers being worn out from collecting the netballs over and over! Shortly after, we had our second to last event, the beanbag throw, everyone was outstanding, the majority of the time scoring highest possible shocking many. Finally, we had the sprints the races were very close everyone tried there very best.
Finishing in first place was emeralds, as was the same for ks1 sports day so overall emeralds won. Not to say that everyone else didn’t do well, as the scores were very close.
I hope you enjoyed sports day! 😊
Wednesday 25th June - Year 3/4 Tennis by Benji
On Wednesday the 25th of June, YR3, YR4 and YR6 went to Dorking tennis club for a tennis competition. Whilst YR3 and YR4 competed, YR6 helped out with the umpiring.
Once we had got there, YR3 and YR4 tucked into there lunch (with the occasional emergency sandwich) whilst YR6 put up the nets. Luckily then, YR6 had their lunch as the competitors warmed up and labelled themselves to determine which court they would play in. Soon after, the games started against some local schools and thankfully StPauls was doing well. As it was very hot, we soon had a break and drank the well-earned water.
The games worked that each umpire (or duo) managed a court for girl a boy that was either one or two and umpired it. This carried on for a quite a while till we had another break, and the carried on again. Quickly the tournament finished, and while the YR6 umpires tidied up they announced the school. North downs B came third, North downs A second and Powell Cordery A came first. It was a very hot fun day in the end and are parents soon came to collect us! 😊
Tuesday 24th June - Year 3/4 Rounders - by Charlie
A couple weeks ago yr 3 and 4 had a rounders tournament and they won so here’s a deeper insight into the rounders tournament, which yr 3and yr 4 competed in.
To get to the venue the team had to walk there and once they got there they had the rules explained to them by the host. Excited they hopped into their first game, nervous. But the nerves weren’t enough to overrule them as they won their first game. Shortly after with confidence flowing they went into their second game. Which was won by St.Paul’s where they ended up winning the whole tournament and lifting the silverware proudly. Congrats yr 3 and yr 4!
Tuesday 17th June - Year 5/6 Rounders - by Tilda
A few weeks ago, year 6 went to Powell Corderoy to compete in a rounders tournament against local schools. Our first game was against North Downs, where we sadly lost only by half a rounder. After a couple of games we were sweating as it was sooo hot. Our best game was against the Weald, we beat them by 6 rounders! Finally, it came to the end when we won 5 games and lost 1. Sadly Powell had also won 5 games and lost one which was against us. The head of the tournament said 2nd and 1st had to come down to rounders as we had the same amount of wins. The difference was only 1 and a half rounders. My heart was pounding like a drum when we heard that Powell had come 2nd meaning we came 1st!! We went crazy and lifted the well earned silverware like we won the world cup. If Miss George wasn’t there, we would’ve never been able to compete in the tournament. Thank you Miss George for everything you do, you are the best sports coach ever.
James Carleton comes to visit - 24th April 2025
Today, we were very privileged to have James Carleton, and ex St St Paul's student, come in to take our assembly. James spoke about his journey from St Paul's School sport to where he is today. During the 10 years since leaving St Paul's, he has dedicated his life to hockey and has progressed through the ranks from Surrey competitions to now being part of the Under 21s Great British and English Hockey Team.
The assemblies were inspirational and we hope the children enjoyed listening to James.
The main thoughts from the assembly:
-
Try as many sports as you can
-
Do what makes you happy
-
Mistakes are a great way to succeed and overall makes you a better person
-
Being nervous shows that you care
-
Be determined and try your best
We are so proud of James and feel very grateful that he has given his time to us to share his story.

Sports Crew 11th November 2024
To start the day,12 animated year sixes turned up at the priory at 8:50 and met in the car park. We then, rather noisily, funnelled through the gates towards the large sports dome sitting at the edge of the school grounds. The next thing we did on our day was make our way towards the area, the dome. Feeling excited, I swiftly ran through the revolving door, almost getting stuck on the way, and dropped my bag, ready for the next instruction given by our teacher, Mr. Prentice. Before I could sit down ,we were introduced to our leaders for the day, and we quickly engaged in an activity involving sorting values into ones we thought were important and not.
Like our second game, we did a number of sessions while rotating round to different stations every five or so minutes, some of which we would do later by ourselves. We then all gathered around our leader to discuss MR.NEDD (name, explain, demonstrate and do) and how we could show this when we were delivering the games to children. After a short snack break, we began our next thing, which was a multi -school game of blob tag that I think everyone enjoyed which was organised by our wonderful leaders. A few minutes later, we split to go back into our school groups to do some games organised and played by us. My group, Emily and Benji, played a game called hoop-hop- hooray, a game involving hoops and rock paper scissors. Other games include splat, head, shoulders, knees and cone and many more. It was nearing the end of our morning, so we gathered one last time and celebrated our day. Near the end, they handed out our bronze badges which we got from completing our training. In the future I would love to receive my silver and gold badges. Ultimately, it was a great experience and I came back to school buzzing with confidence while proudly displaying my badge on my sports crew t-shirt.
