Green Fingers in Year One!
Today, Sycamore and Maple classes went to Wakehurst Place. It was a beautiful, sunny day - how lucky were we?!
We had three activities to do over the day. We looked at the story of the sunflower and examined seeds, plants and flowers in every stage of their life process. Then we acted out the process. We had a walk in the grounds to look at leaves and roots to see the work they do for plants. We looked at daffodils and did the work of bees - collecting pollen to ensure the plants make seeds.
Then - the most important part of the day - lunch!
After lunch, we learnt about the parts of plants - we identified vegetables and decided which parts of the plant we eat. We then used the vegetables to make faces after looking at paintings by Arcimboldo. It was a lovely day with lots of lovely parent helpers (thank you!), great staff at Wakehurst and superbly well behaved children.
Our trip experience will become the focus for our learning after Easter Break; already it is clear there are some budding horticulturists in Year 1!
