St. Paul’s C of E Primary School

Sycamore say: "Shabbat Shalom!"

Today, Year 1 came to the end of learning about how the Jewish people celebrate Shabbat.

What better way to celebrate the end of the topic than actually celebrating!  So we cleaned and tidied our tables (as we knew Jewish people can't do any work on the Shabbat) then laid the table with our very best plastic cutlery and paper plates. (Ooh  we've been thinking about alliteration this week - house point for Mrs C!)

Next we put out our (plastic) kiddush cups and the Challah bread, which we covered.  One of each group became the Grandfather or Father and blessed the children, before 'Mother' 'lit' the candles.  We had meat and vegetables (2 different types of biscuit) and red wine (blackcurrant!) before sharing the bread, then cleaning up again.

It was great fun and I know from past experience it will be one of the things they remember from Year 1. (mainly because of the food!)
